Editions

Can I switch between Express and Professional?

Yes, In Dev Hound click the Admin tab, choose "About Dev Hound" and click the "Switch to XYZ Edition" button in the bottom right corner.

Why is Dev Hound Express free?

Nexus Concepts believes that everyone has the right to decent bug tracking software. The best way to give that to you is free however we do need to make some money so if you can afford it please purchase Dev Hound.

Why purchase Dev Hound?

You should purchase Dev Hound if you would like technical support or would like the extra features of the full version.

Speed

Dev Hound is slow on Firefox and Windows Vista

This is a known issue with Firefox: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.dns.disableIPv6
It turns out that the slowness is caused by an IPv6 issue with DNS and can easily be resolved by turning IPv6 support off in Firefox while doing localhost testing. To make the change, type about:config in the address bar, locate the network.dns.disableIPv6 setting and double-click on it to set it to true. This does the trick for the Firefox localhost issue on Vista and everything is running fast again.

SQL Server

Can I switch from the native database to SQL Server?

Yes, if you have your own server and would like to use a SQL Server instead of the native database you can. Detailed instructions are available in the online user guide or email a request

Can I switch back from SQL Server?

Yes, your SQL Server database can be retrograded back to the Dev Hound native database. In Dev Hound's configuration application, click the database tab, right click in the area where the "Upgrade" button is and choose "Downgrade" from the popup menu.

Registration

How do I enter the registration code I have purchased?

Click the Admin tab in Dev Hound, click "About Dev Hound" and enter the registration code. Make sure you click "Save"

Web Servers

What web servers does Dev Hound work with?

Dev Hound has its own built in Web Server however you can use IIS. You can also use Apache or Xitami however the server must be a Windows box. If you are choosing IIS we recommend using Windows 2003 Server or higher as it is more stable.

Which web server do you recommend?

We recommend our own built in server as it is faster and has built in security. IIS can be used but requires much more knowledge of security, settings, user profiles etc. IIS is also slower and will occassionally fail with unexplained errors on ISAPI applications like Dev Hound.

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly

Full Error : A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?

Microsoft : "Because some scripts may take an excessive amount of time to run, Internet Explorer prompts the user to decide whether they would like to continue running the slow script"

To resolve:
  • Using a Registry Editor such as Regedt32.exe, open this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Styles
Note If the Styles key is not present, create a new key that is called Styles.
  • Create a new DWORD value called "MaxScriptStatements" under this key and set the value to the desired number of script statements
